Salt Water Fly Fishing in Mexico

Fly fishing the flats on the western side of Mexico’s Yucatan peninsula is an experience not to be missed. The fly fishing highlights of this coast lie in Ascension and Chetumal Bays.

Ascension Bay

Ascension Bay lies in the heart of the Sian Ka’an biosphere, which is a World Heritage Site. This area of the coast has very limited development and it will reamin that way for eternity. Miles and miles of hard sand flats make this heaven to the wade fishing angler. The flats are teeming with bonefish, permit, baby tarpon, and snook, and just offshore is an untapped blue water fishery. More info >>

Chetumal Bay

Chetumal Bay lies on the border between Mexico and Belize. This bay system is three times as large as Ascension Bay and is relatively undiscovered. New flats are being fished for the first time each day. All of the flats species are here and the bonefish are slightly larger than their cousins to the north. This remote destination is not to be missed! More info >>
